Rave or Save: Jeffree Star x MannyMUA Eclipse Skin Frost

Hey friends! 👋🏻 today’s Rave or Save product is the Eclipse highlighter/skin frost from the Jeffree Star Cosmetics and MannyMUA collaboration! Needless to say, I was pretty excited for this collection because it propelled me to actually buy a highlighter from Jeffree Star. Considering I’ve been eyeing Jeffree’s highlighters for a while, I had high expectations from the person whose highlight is always blinding. I already own three of his liquid lipsticks and they are amazing so I expected the same for the rest of his products. As always, pictures and swatches will be at the end of the review! đź’•

Initially, when I first swiped my ring finger to swatch the highlight on my arm, almost no product came off. The product itself feels a little gritty which also shocked me because Manny claimed it was creamy. When I think of a creamy powder, I instantly think of Lorac or Anastasia eyeshadows. I felt like it didn’t feel that way. Then, I go in with a second finger swatch and it picked up more product and glitter but I was still unhappy with the pigmentation because it was CHUNKY. Then, I swatched it again and on the third layer of swatching on my finger, I noticed that it became chunkier and it balled up. My last resort was to apply it with a brush onto my face because I had to make sure it worked. I used a Luxie Tapered Highlighting Brush to apply it on the high points of my cheeks and it FINALLY worked. I did notice that it had tiny glitter particles which I wasn’t a fan of but I brushed the glitter off with a clean brush and so it didn’t bother me afterwards but when I looked closely at my face it still had glitter! The highlight was pretty blinding and by applying it on my face, it made up for the lack of product with the finger swatch. I asked two of my friends who own the highlighter as well and they experienced the same thing I did and we all agreed that the highlighter has to be applied with a highlighting brush—extremely important not just any brush—onto the face. The color itself is pretty as well. It’s a cool toned champagne with a hint of pink. Now, because of the color it’s not my favorite highlight because I feel like it doesn’t mesh well with my bronzer because it’s warm toned, but I still wear it every other day and I think it’s beautiful under the arch of the brow. I have also seen in reviews that people prefer Jeffree’s regular highlighters so I’ll definitely have to purchase some to form an opinion of my own. But, just by trying this specific shade I think his formula could be better. I feel like I’m being really hard on this product because I was shocked by the finger swatches. This product is a save for me because it’s not my ride or die highlighter. Do I think it’s a good highlight? Yes, when using a highlighting brush of course and removing the glitter!  But it’s not a highlighter I would recommend to someone who’s buying their first highlight!

Third layer swatch (you can kind of see it’s a little chunky… I tried to take a good picture of the chunks hopefully you can see them):

PS I WILL BE UPLOADING A PICTURE OF HOW IT LOOKS ON MY FACE IN A FEW HOURS.
