HI FRIENDS! It’s been quite a long tiiiime since I last posted on this blog and I’m looking forward to writing again. So, if you’re new to my blog, hi I’m Marie Ann and I normally do a series called Rave or Save. Basically what that means is if I label a product as a “rave”, then that means you should go check it out for yourself because it has my stamp of approval. If I label a product as “save”, that means you should save your money and invest your money elsewhere! So today’s Rave or Save is going to be on the Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Eyeshadow Palette. In this review I will be comparing Soft Glam to the Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette. As always, links and swatches will be all down below!
I think the most common question people have is, “what is difference between the Soft Glam Eyeshadow Palette and the Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette?” I’m here to tell you that there’s not much of a difference. Yes, there’s different pops of colors but nearly half the colors are so similar to one another that I don’t think it makes this palette stand out. But let me just show you some swatches of the palette itself and review the formula. Then I’ll show some swatches comparing the two palettes!
My first impression of this palette was not a great one because I thought the shimmery eyeshadows didn’t perform how I wanted them to using my finger and wetting my brush with Fix+, specifically Rose Pink, Sultry, and Bronze. When I swatched those three colors on my arm they seemed like they were going to pack a punch. But i was disappointed because I tried doing a halo eye using Sultry as the base and Rose Pink as the highlight on top of Sultry but they didn’t layer well. Rose Pink barely showed up even when using a finger and a wet brush. So then I wipe the poor excuse for a halo eye off and tried again. The second time around I used Bronze and I applied it with my finger and it wasn’t as vibrant as it was when I swatched it and I think those three shimmer shades didn’t work well because they may have mixed with the matte shades I used to blend out the crease (which normally doesn’t happen when I use other brands). So that was a turn off for me. Then, I tried doing a matte eye look and used Burnt Orange, Sienna, and Mulberry and they all kind of blended into the same color. There was also a lot of kick up from some of the eye shadows—which doesn’t bother me but I just wanted to put that out there since I experienced some fall out—and when I dipped my finger into the shimmer shades it left severe indentations in the eyeshadow too. So then I took out my Modern Renaissance palette and decided to see what the difference was between both palettes.
Below I will be leaving some comparison swatches! M.R. = Modern Renaissance and S.G = Soft Glam!
When comparing the two palettes, nearly half the shades were so similar and in the same color family that I thought didn’t make the Soft Glam worth it (and the swatches excludes two colors that both palettes also share and it’s Cyprus Umber and Burnt Orange). So, half of the Soft Glam palette was nearly similar to the Modern Renaissance palette that it didn’t make the Soft Glam worth it to me especially considering how the shimmery eyeshadows performed. Therefore, you’re better of saving your money. However, if you’re torn between getting one or the other I would recommend going with the Modern Renaissance because you have your everyday neutrals and pops of color! Thanks for reading!!
